City of Yarra Arts Precinct GreenStar Business Program

The GreenStar Business Program engaged with 30 businesses in the City of Yarra’s Art Precinct using a six-step incentive-based approach to improve litter and waste management, reduce street litter, and protect stormwater quality within this popular area.
The City of Yarra’s Litter Task Force identified the Collingwood/Fitzroy Arts Precinct as a high priority for litter prevention projects. The aim of the project delivery was to employ several different behaviour change approaches to improve waste management systems and prevent litter. Participating businesses are recognisable by GreenStar accreditation.
The program included one-on-one engagement, with specially tailored advice and programs designed for each business, coupled with wider engagement strategies. Outcomes of the program also included recommendations for Council, tailored by participating businesses, outlining ways in which Council could assist businesses to reduce waste and litter in the precinct.
The Program also included engagement with 10 key businesses in the City of Stonnington, along the Chapel Street Entertainment Precinct in South Yarra and Prahran.
The City of Yarra GreenStar Business Program was supported by Melbourne Water, as part of the Lower Yarra Litter Strategy.
