Business Transformer
Purpose/Aim
The Business Transformer provides first-hand experience in the development of the approaches necessary for sustainable progress. Delivered through partnerships with the local Councils, the program allows organisations to capture the ‘business benefits’ that flow from sustainability initiatives and to interactively develop local and appropriate approaches in their organisational context.
Incorporating both educational and active participation, the components comprise a series of interactive sessions for industry participants over a 12 month program (a maximum of 15 organisations). This includes support and advice between seminars, optional in-house workshops and information sessions. The program also provides opportunities to develop partnerships and strong relationships between government and industry.
The program is comprised of the following key elements:
- Three high-level seminars over 12 months, involving a range of specialist speakers - including interactive live video conferencing with Dr Bob Willard.
- Three support workshops covering specific topic areas such as behaviour change, carbon management, emissions trading and water management
- Two site visits and opportunity assessments for each individual participant business
- A set of strategic action plans for each participant with a project for each business to work on over the year
- Ongoing business support, advice and mentoring throughout the program
Stakeholders/partners
The NCS has delivered the Business Transformer program in collaboration with the following Councils:
- Knox City Council with eight participating organisations
- Shire of Yarra Ranges with twelve businesses
- City of Casey with five participating organisations
- City of Melbourne with twelve participating organisations
Achievements
The delivery of the Business Transformer II in 2007 witnessed some remarkable achievements. Together, the participant businesses succeeded in reducing their combined annual production of greenhouse gases by an impressive 2,892 tonnes! Projections for the next three years indicate that the businesses will further reduce their emissions by an amazing 26,000 tonnes.
