Promotion Policies in Higher Education

Promotion Policy - Academic staff

Swinburne values and rewards excellence in teaching, scholarship and service. In applying for promotion staff must provide a compelling case that clearly demonstrates the contribution made by the staff member in each of these categories within the University and the wider community. Achievement in the scholarship of teaching must be demonstrated by excellence, as validated by internal and particularly external independent evaluation.

Swinburne University's promotion policy allows for academic promotion on the basis of teaching performance. It gives full recognition to teaching in promotions and awards the title 'Associate Professor' or 'Professor' to all academics gaining promotion to Level D or Level E.
