Blended learning
For Swinburne University of Technology online materials and activities in most instances complement face-to-face components of learning and teaching. In fact a range of media is used to supplement lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions and design studios. The range includes streaming video, video conferencing, online lecture notes, online slides, online readings and resources, links to library and other online resources, online chat and discussion, online quizzes and assessment, and print materials. This approach is sometimes referred to as 'blended learning.' It can be used to provide flexibility for students in choosing learning resources and activities in formats that suit their learning needs and preferences.
To complement face-to-face sessions consider posting, lecture notes, Power Point slides, resource materials, and links to library and other resources on the Blackboard site for your subject. Consider stetting up discussion forums, chat times, or using group pages to support group activities. Consider setting up self-assessment quizzes. Make use of the assignment submission function on Blackboard, perhaps using 'Safe assignment' to deal with plagiarism. Consider having lectures video recorded - possibly using 'Producer', which combines Power Point slides and video. Some Faculties and discipline areas have standard requirements for Blackboard sites so take these into account.
