- Professional Certificate of Teaching Practice
This is a formal staff development program offered to assist incoming academic staff members to build up skills and knowledge concerning university teaching practice and to aid existing academic staff members in updating and improving their teaching skills.
- Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning
The program is designed for staff experienced in teaching who wish to further develop this aspect of their work as well as for acdemic staff new to teaching.
- Probation policy
Swinburne is committed to development of teaching competency in staff new to teaching. Swinburne encourages all academic teaching staff to undertake a study of teaching.
- Promotion policy
Swinburne values and rewards excellence in teaching, scholarship and service. In applying for promotion staff must provide a compelling case that clearly demonstrates the contribution made by the staff member in each of these categories within the University and the wider community.
- Swinburne induction
The purpose of induction is to provide the necessary information, resources and motivation to assist a staff member to adjust to a new work environment and to encourage the development of loyalty and enthusiasm towards the University.
- Training and development programs
The training and development initiatives are designed to support staff in acquiring and enhancing knowledge and skills that will enable them to contribute most effectively to the achievement of Swinburne's goals.
- Swinburne training unit
To ensure that staff are able to make full use of computer systems and software at Swinburne, the Training Unit offers a wide range of courses, from a basic to an advanced level. These include Swinburne's Core application systems, such as ASCOL, Pandora and Syllabus Plus and the resident third-party applications from suppliers such as Microsoft, Macromedia and Novell.
