Short Course Options
Statistics@Swinburne runs a number of training courses for students, researchers and people from industry. One, two and three day courses are run both on campus, and off campus at times suitable to clients and lecturers. It is also possible to take topics in subjects in our graduate statistics courses as a short course or study single subjects.
Note: Programs run only if sufficient numbers and times may change according to demand.
Statistics Short Courses 2009
As indicated below, for some short courses it is necessary to purchase notes before the short course so that you can do some pre-reading. Please bring these notes to the short course. The web site for the bookstore is https://bookshop.swin.edu.au/
Semester 1 ( 9 am – 5 pm unless otherwise indicated)
- Structural Equation Modelling (Presenter: Arda Cunningham: 10-12 February in BA601)
- Introduction to SPSS (Presenter: Debbie Voogd: 14-15 March in BA603and 2nd May in BA603). Please purchase the following notes from the bookstore and complete the reading for sections 1.1 and 1.2 before the short course.( SPSS for Windows Version 17 for 14-15 March, HMS772 Further SPSS for Windows for 2nd May).
- Research Design (Presenters: Helen Bartley and Jahar Bhowmik: 21 March (9am - 5pm), 22 March (9am - 1pm) and 9th May). Please purchase the following notes from the bookstore and complete the reading for Topics 1-3 before the short course. (HMS773 Survey Research Practice).
- Basic Statistics (Presenter: Imma Guarnieri: 28-29 March in BA603 and 3rd May in BA603). Please purchase the following notes from the bookstore and complete the reading for Sections 1 and 2 before the short course.(Introduction to Statistics Part A- HMS770, Introduction to Statistics Part B- HMS770)
- General Statistics (Presenter: Imma Guarnieri: 4-5 April in BA603 and 9th May in BA603). Please purchase the following notes from the bookstore and complete the reading for Topics 3 and 4 before the short course. (HMS771 Analysis of Variance, HMS771 Statistical Practice 2)
- Rasch Modelling (Presenter: Julie Pallant: 28th-29th March 10 am – 4:30 pm in BA404)
- Other short courses on topics such as factor analysis, hierarchical regression, logistic regression, MANOVA, discriminant analysis, scale development, loglinear modelling, multi-level linear models, survival analysis will be offered on various weeknights. See Appendix 1 below.
