Biography

Associate Professor Karen Farquharson is Academic Head of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Swinburne. Karen is a sociologist with research interests in the areas of race and ethnic relations, the media, sport, and the internet. She teaches in Sociology and convenes the BA (Hons) in Social Science and Industry and Community Studies.

Prior to working at Swinburne, Karen was a Research Fellow at the Centre for Public Policy at the University of Melbourne. She holds a PhD from Harvard University and was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Cape Town in 1995-1996. Karen is a co-editor of the International Journal of Emerging Technologies and Society (http://www.swinburne.edu.au/ijets).
