Feng (means Phoenix in Chinese) Wang obtained her PhD in theoretical/computational chemistry from Univ. of Newcastle (NSW) in 1994, after earning her BSc (Physical Chemistry, 1983) and MSc(Quantum Chemistry by Research,1986), both from Sichuan University (China). Dr. Wang took the prestigious NSERC Canada International Postdoctoral Fellowship Award at Department of Chemistry, Univ. of Waterloo during 1994-1996. She worked under the guidance of Professors R. J. Le Roy and F. R. W. McCourt exploring intermolecular interactions of van der Waals complexes through simulated microwave (MW) and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. From 1996 to 2001, Dr. Wang joined Professor Frank Larkins at The Univ. of Melbourne as a Research Fellow in the School of Chemistry. She worked in an ARC project discovering electronic structures of molecules through x-ray spectroscopy and was exposed to state-of-the-art electron momentum spectroscopy (EMS), where she built up her expertise in molecular wavefunctions which are less well developed in quantum chemistry. She moved to VPAC in 2001 as a Computational Scientist, leading a software development project with applications to earth sciences.
Dr Feng Wang joined Swinburne University of Technology in 2003 as a Senior Lecturer in Computational Science. Dr Wang was promoted in 2005 to Associate Professor and in 2009 to Professor. Since 2011, Prof Wang has been Professor of Chemistry. Prof. Wang has been a leading researcher in computational chemistry, molecular spectroscopy and molecular physics. Her expertise in molecular simulation/modelling enables her to expand to broader areas of biotechnology and nanotechnology such as DNA bases, amino acids, peptides, organic dye sensitizer solar cells and their interactions, bridging state-of-the-art supercomputing with synchrotron sourced spectroscopy. With her extensive international collaboration, she won the Vice-Chancellor's Research Award (2006) and has been a Chief Investigator of a number of internationally competitive grants including the ARC DP, synchrotron international access programs and Key-National Laboratory in China.
Prof. Wang has been a visiting Professor of Sichuan University (China) since 2002 and of Xihua University since 2011.
