Professional interests are concentrated on development and coordination of collaborative research in fundamental and applied fields of nano/bio/technology/Biochemistry and Microbiology. The research has contributed significantly to the taxonomy of marine bacteria. Amongst described prokaryotes (including 3 new genera and 21 novel bacterial species) taxonomically unique strains with important biotechnological properties. The research interests are also focusing on design, fabrication and operation of planar micro-devices; immobilization of bio-molecules and micro-organisms in micro/nano/environments, bacterial interactions with macro/micro/nano-structured surfaces.
Nominated by the Australian Research Council (ARC) College of Experts as an 'expert of international standing', external PhD thesis examiner, editorial board member for Microbes and Environments (Japan), Antonie van Leeuwenhoek (Springer). Author and co-author of more then 200 research papers, 4 patents, a monograph, 12 book chapters.
