Welcome to the October 2009 edition of the Faculty of Life and Social Sciences Research Bulletin - there's a lot going on this month!

These bulletins contain information on current and upcoming events within the Faculty, external scholarship/grant opportunities and important information for researchers.


Higher Degrees Completions - 2009

Congratulations are extended to 3 postgraduate research students who have recently completed their studies. These students join 14 others who have completed this year, bringing the FLSS completions for 2009 to 17 so far.

Our newly completed students are:

  • Melinda Jackson (PhD, Rodney Croft & Rob Pierce)
  • Tracey Varker (PhD, Andrew Scholey & Con Stough)
  • Diana White (DPsych Counselling, Ann Knowles & Christine Critchley)

Congratulations to Melinda, Tracey, Diana and their supervisors!


2010 Scholarship Round

Applications are now open for the 2010 Postgraduate Research Scholarship round. Please note that there have been two key changes to the eligibility criteria for this year. These are:

1) International applicants must have satisfied the English language requirements by 20 November 2009. Applicants who have not provided evidence of English language proficiency by this date will not be eligible for scholarship in this round.

2) All applicants must be able to commence their scholarship within three months of the date of offer. Offers will be automatically withdrawn after this date.

Scholarship applications close at 5pm on Friday 30 October 2009.

Staff Success

Congratulations to David Austin and Britt Klein who have secured a project through the Department of Health and Ageing which will seek to provide improved services for carers and families of those affected by suicide. The project will be a partnership between the National e-Therapy Centre and Crisis Support Services.

Congratulations also to Barry Carr, an Adjunct Professor at the ISR, who has recently been elected as a Fellow to the Australian Academy of the Social Sciences.
