How to Apply for a Research Program

Once you have secured your supervisors, you will need to complete your Application for Admission to Candidature form. This form is a combination of an application for candidature and an application for the scholarships offered to postgraduate research students across the University.

Scholarship applications traditionally close at the end of October, and scholarships for the coming year are awarded in December. However, you are able to commence candidature at any time throughout the year. If you are successful in obtaining candidature you may then apply for a scholarship at a later stage.

PhD Applications

After submission, your application will go through an approval process comprised of two stages. First, your application will be considered by the Chair of the Faculty of Life and Social Sciences Research Committee, who will ensure that you meet all entry requirements for the Doctorate of Philosophy program and who will review your proposed research topic.

Your application will then be assessed by the University's Research Higher Degrees Committee. A letter of offer will follow approval by this Committee.

Professional Doctorate of Psychology Applications

Professional Doctorate of Psychology students must also complete the

in addition to the Application for Admission to Candidature (above), as these programs contain elements of coursework as well as a research thesis.

These applications will be considered by a selection panel, and if successful, applicants will be invited to attend an interview.

If successful at interview, your Application for Admission to Candidature will then be considered by the University's Higher Research Degrees Committee. A letter of offer will follow approval by this Committee.
