Board-approved supervisor training

The Psychology Clinic is accredited to provide the full training program for psychologists who wish to become Board-approved supervisors.

Training is held at the Hawthorn campus, Swinburne University of Technology.

Component 1: Knowledge Assessment

This online knowledge training is the first of three components for the full training for supervisors, and will address the requirements of all categories of supervisees (i.e. 4+2, 5+1, higher degree and registrar training pathways).

This component consists of three modules. Within each of these modules, enrolees for the course will be provided with learning materials, including links to reading materials such as registration guidelines and standards. At the end of each module there will be a multiple choice quiz relating to the content.

Component 2: Skills-based Training Workshops

The training includes a two-day workshop covering topics such as professional requirements, ethical issues in supervision, theories of supervision, supervisory roles and alliance and assessment and feedback. Training is provided by board approved supervisors and trainers. The workshop is interactive and includes group discussions, case studies, role plays and brief assessment.

You must have completed Component 1 of the Full Training to be eligible for Component 2.

Dates: Four two-day workshopd are scheduled to be held in 2017. See the table below for the 2017 schedule.

Time: 9am-5pm each day.

Component 3: Competency-based Assessment and Evaluation

This is the third and final part of supervisor training, and involves a systematic assessment of the psychologist demonstrating their supervisory competencies (including the seven competencies mentioned in the guidelines).

Submission of a video recording of a supervision session and an accompanying reflective piece which is assessed by board approved supervision trainer. An individual assessment report and feedback is provided.

You must complete component 3 of the supervision training within but not exceeding a period of 3 months since successfully completing component 2 of the training.
