Process Experiential Emotion Focused Therapy
Introductory Workshop for Psychologists and Health Professionals

Help is on the way: Training and professional development opportunities for psychologists and other health professionals

Melissa Harte in collaboration with the Swinburne Psychology Clinic will be delivering a half day workshop on the use of Process-Experiential Emotion Focused Therapy (PEEFT), on Saturday 2 May, 2009.

Process-Experiential Emotion Focused Therapy
PEEFT is an integrative approach based on the premise that having an awareness of emotional experiences and an understanding of emotional processes is important for psychological well being and developing a sense of wholeness. In PEEFT emotions are seen to be adaptive in their role of providing information to individuals as to what is important to them in a situation. PEEFT proposes that emotional experiences become problematic when ignored, dismissed or dysregulated by trauma.

PEEFT was developed by Greenberg, Rice and Elliott in 1980's and draws upon the experiential perspective, cognitive science and emotion theory. It aims to help clients gain insight into their emotional processes, develop Emotional Intelligence and derive meaning from their emotional world. This is achieved experientially by clients' processing their emotional experiences as they occur, in the context and safety of the therapeutic relationship.

Workshop and Facilitator Information
This introductory workshop has been developed for psychologists and other health professionals who work in counselling settings. It will be both theoretical and experiential to model how practitioners can integrate PEEFT into their work with clients. The presenter, Melissa Harte is a passionate advocate for PEEFT and she is engaged in PEEFT training, research and supervision. In her therapeutic work Melissa uses PEEFT with young people and adults who struggle to make sense of their lives after experiencing grief and loss, individuals and couples who want to improve their communication and relationships, and individuals who suffer from depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, dissociative processes and other psychological disturbances.
