Centre for Psychological Research on Prevention, Adaptation and Therapeutic Intervention (PATh)

Mission Statement

The PATH research group has been formed to provide a forum for the development of research on clinical counselling and health psychology within the Psychology Discipline and more broadly within the wider University.

The focus of the Centre has been on the establishment and extension of research programs that:

  • Deal with clinical issues of prevention of psychological disorders

  • Identify psychological factors involved in adaptation to life problems

  • Evaluate aspects of therapeutic interventions

PATH has sought to establish itself as a research Centre through strengthening links with external Mental Health organizations and through expanding research activity within the Psychology Centre of the School of Social and Behavioural Sciences.

Aims

  • Development and maintenance of a research programs within the psychology Centre involving an ongoing assessment of the types of problems experienced by clients attending the Centre and an appraisal of therapeutic change.

  • To develop links with outside agencies in mental health through consultancies aimed at evaluation of therapeutic interventions.

  • To foster collaborative research projects leading to publications and grant applications in the areas of focus of the Centre.

  • To generate graduate research projects in the areas of focus of the Psychology Centre.
