What is the focus of this degree?
This course focuses on all aspects of the commercial radio industry. You'll graduate from the course with a strong foundation in all areas of radio broadcasting.
The course is taught by experts currently working in the field who can provide industry insight and advice. You'll receive two semesters (one year) of intensive training in all aspects of commercial radio operations, with a strong focus on digital audio processing and control systems. You'll also have access to our studios and production suites.

Is this course for me?
If you have a serious desire and clear intention to make commercial radio a career - this is the course for you. Whether you want to be an on-air announcer, a radio journalist or work in promotions, job opportunities in commercial radio are pretty diverse. You'll be able to learn about them all through this course.
To apply, you'll have completed an undergraduate degree or have substantial experience in radio or a related media industry. You'll also have a passion for a career in commercial radio, work well in a team, and of course, you'll have a clear speaking voice.
What are my study options?
The Graduate Diploma of Arts (Commercial Radio) is taught at three day sessions and one evening session per week, with 11 hours of class contact time per week. You should also allow an additional 15 hours per week for assignments. You'll have access to radio studios and production facilities.
The course goes for one-year and is offered in a full-time capacity.
An industry placement program also places students into regional commercial radio stations for several weeks during the course.
This placement is designed to allow you to experience first-hand the environment and operating style of commercial radio, gain feedback on your skills and to make personal contacts within the industry.

What are my career options?
Our course has been operating successfully since 1989, with more than 85 percent of graduates securing positions in Commercial Radio stations across Australia as announcers, journalists, creative writers, producers, promotion assistants and production staff.
The course has the full support of the professional industry association, Commercial Radio Australia (CRA), and the industry is actively involved in lectures, seminars and workshops.
We do all we can to assist our graduates find employment in the industry, however, no guarantees of employment can be given - but the skills gained and the contacts made during the course should place you in an excellent position to secure employment in the Commercial Radio industry, and CRA offers every possible assistance with placement also.
It is likely that you'll begin your career in commercial radio in a provincial market, so be prepared to move out of the city for your first job. Many graduates have been promoted to larger regional and metropolitan markets, and more than one-third of all graduates now work in metro stations across Australia.
There are plenty of interesting careers available within the commercial radio industry, and this course will give you hands-on training in many on and off-air positions.
