IBL Success Stories

Employer Testimonials

In a recent survey IBL employers were asked what they regarded as the best aspect(s) of the program. Here are some of their answers:

  • The program provides us with a much valued extra pair of hands and enables us to train possible future staff.
  • IBL allows students a time to consolidate their learning, apply working knowledge and return to uni with new skills and motivation.
  • Students are given a chance to experience a professional placement in order to decide whether they are taking the correct path.
  • I think IBL is the most important thing you can do at uni. It seems that the most dedicated and valuable students are those with a genuine passion for what they do. I will continue to endorse the program and employ future students.
  • We have been very lucky over the years to have had an opportunity to work with an enthusiastic and delightful group of Swinburne students. We have employed quite a few of them and they are all very valuable members of our department. We hope to continue this trend in the future.
  • We get to work with intelligent, bright and enthusiastic students who are eager to learn and very keen to impress. The students are given important tasks and treated as employees of our organisation, with the same demands, expectations, guidance and support given to all staff members. As a result of their studies, they bring new ideas and different approaches for us to consider.

Student Testimonial

Carla Carafa

My name is Carla Carafa and I’m studying Bachelor of Media and Communications (Marketing/Sociology) at Swinburne. After completing my second year in 2006 I decided to register for IBL, and after applying for several internships, I was successful in obtaining a work placement at Franchise Central – a recruitment management consultancy specialising in the development and marketing of franchised operations and hundreds of franchise opportunities throughout Australia.

My work placement at Franchise Central has allowed me to apply and further develop skills and knowledge that I have previously learned in the classroom at Swinburne. I have been able to apply various theoretical material learnt in a lecture environment to ‘real world’ situations in my office environment.

At Franchise Central I have been given the title of ‘Advertising/Marketing Manager’. I have a wide range of responsibilities including, but not limited to, the preparation and development of marketing documentation, contribution to our online monthly Franchise Magazine in the way of articles, and participation in business Expos. The other element of my role is advertising, which includes maintaining both client and Franchise Central advertising campaigns in the research of potential mediums, development of text and placing ads.

My placement has allowed me to explore my interests in the industry and subsequently I have discovered my passions lie within advertising, marketing and journalism – researching, writing and editing, developing documentation and various reports and being creative in the design of advertisements.

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to participate in IBL. I believe it is such a rewarding program as it has given me invaluable knowledge and many fundamental skills I’ll need in the ‘real world’. I am enjoying my time at Franchise Central immensely, and I look forward to returning to study in 2008.
