Is the violence presented in video games affecting the behaviour of its players?

This panel discussion brings together key commentators and academics to discuss the findings of recent research into the impact of violence in video games on school age people. This discussion is also ideal for teachers focusing on violence in media.

Speakers will include Dr Mark Finn (Swinburne University), Jeffrey Brand (Bond University) and Kevin Donnelly (author and educator).

Virtually Ethical

In the world of games, just because it isn't real does not mean it isn't real. Is the theft of virtual armour in an online game a real crime? What rights does an avatar have?

Featuring fascinating real life case studies, this panel discussion will explore the legal and ethical issues that arise from virtual actions and examine how the law can keep up with developments in game technology.

Speakers include Dr Mark Finn (Swinburne University), cyber law expert Melissa deZwart (Monash University), Andrew Stapleton and Head of ABC Innovation Abigail Thomas.

Date: Sunday, 25 May 2008, 2pm
Location: Screen Pit
Admission:  Free!
