New scholarships pave the way for careers in Public and Environmental Health
The Faculty of Life and Social Sciences is delighted to announce it has been granted two new scholarships for students studying in the Bachelor of Health Science (Public and Environmental Health).
The scholarships will be awarded to one regional student and one equity student. Both scholarships are to the value of $20,000 (a HECS placement of three years).
Funding for these scholarships has been provided by the Food and Safety Regulatory Activities Unit of the Victorian Department of Human Services, as it recognises that graduates from this course perform a variety of functions under the public health legislation for both local and state government.
The current shortage of graduates to meet demand for Environmental Health Officer roles has been well documented.
Graduates of the Public and Environmental Health degree are able to work in a variety of roles.
They may qualify to work as Environmental Health Officers or obtain positions in the areas of health promotion, policy development, communicable disease investigation, immunization, environmental protection, disaster management, sustainability or public and community health planning.
Graduates may work internationally with overseas agencies in places such as Rwanda, Somalia and Vietnam. Employment rates for graduates are consistently high.
