An experience of Swinburne from Jeremy Pascoe

Having studied Engineering and Management during my 20s and 30s, I had thoughts of studying Law later - perhaps in my late 40s. However, lack of time meant the last did not eventuate. As I approached retirement, I was still interested in further study but now in less vocationally driven subjects.

Because I live within walking distance of Swinburne, this was my first choice of university - subject to it offering a part-time course that interested me.

Fortunately, in addition to the vocational courses (Psychology, Sociology, Media, etc.) offered by the School of Social and Behavioural Sciences at Swinburne, I found it offered a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in non-vocational areas such as Philosophy and Politics. This satisfied my requirement. However, I also found I was encouraged to take several first year subjects in areas outside my major study specialisation. As a consequence, I am looking forward to being introduced to the basics of some of the above vocational areas of study, all of which are far removed from my previous education and work experience.

Jeremy Pascoe.
