Clinical Disorders and Abnormal Psychology Flagship
Principals: Professor Mike Kyrios and Professor Greg Murray
The Clinical Disorders and Abnormal Psychology group brings together researchers with an interest in understanding and treating psychological disorders, with the aim of improving outcomes for people suffering mental health and cognitive disorders. A unique feature of this group's research is the e-Therapy Unit which develops internet-based assessments and treatments for psychological disorders and health-related issues.
Specific research interests include:
- Research into disorders of mood and mood regulation, particularly bipolar disorder (led by Professor Greg Murray)
- Understanding obsessive-compulsive spectrum, anxiety, mood and related disorders, pathological gambling and addiction related disorders, autism spectrum, and psychotic disorders, and using that understanding to develop and evaluate psychological treatments (led by Professor Michael Kyrios)
- Primary care research - research into the primary care system, particularly its integration of psychological treatments and psychologists (led by Professor Michael Kyrios & Dr Richard Moulding)
- Research into forensic psychology (led by Dr Jeff Pfeifer)
- Research into psychological factors associated with chronic medical illnesses such as diabetes, inflammatory bowel disorders, Parkinsons, etc. (led by Professor Michael Kyrios)
- The delivery of structured early intervention/treatment programs for clinical disorders/symptoms via the internet with or without human support (led by Associate Professor Britt Klein)
