About Sociology at Swinburne
Swinburne sociology is practical and applied. You will consider issues that affect modern society, such as the impact of new technology on society, the role of the family in society, how society shapes sexuality, the effects of immigration and ethnic diversity on society and how society values are formed.
As part of an Arts or Social Sciences degree, you will also have maximum flexibility to mix and match your sociology subjects with a range of other potential majors (e.g. politics, literature, philosophy etc).
Courses
Sociology can be studied as a major within either a Bachelor of Arts or Social Science, or within any double degree program which incorporates one of these.
On completion of your Bachelor degree you may apply to join the Honours program. This usually involves one additional full-time year (or the equivalent part-time) of specialised academic studies.

Research
The Australian Centre for Emerging Technologies and Society (ACETS) examines the social, political and ethical dimensions of emerging technologies. It is an interdisciplinary research centre, and is located at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia.
Sociology Internship Program
In their third year, selected sociology students have the opportunity to undertake a supervised research project in industry. The program is optional and gives eligible students practical experience and a proven advantage in the job market.
