Honours programs

An Honours year adds a new dimension to the skills that you have acquired during your undergraduate years. It also enhances your immediate employment prospects and, more significantly, your future career potential.

During an Honours year, you will undertake a research project under the supervision of an active researcher; write a thesis which explains a problem; and outline the research you have undertaken and discuss the main results obtained. You would also attend advanced lecture courses and specialised seminars. The introduction to research is a particularly valuable and exciting experience, and is achieved through regular attendance at topical seminars, and exposure to institutional, national and international research.

In your Honours year you will develop your individual investigative skills, your critical and objective thinking and you will build on your analytical and problem solving skills. You will learn to assess professional and technical literature, to articulate your knowledge and understanding in written and oral presentations, and to work as part of a team.

The Honours year is also requisite for considering furthering your studies into a research degree.
