Finding Journal Articles

Databases enable you to search for articles on a particular topic:

  • Academic OneFile on Gale A major database containing full text articles from many of the leading journals.
  • Academic Search Complete on Ebscohost A comprehensive scholarly, multidisciplinary full-text database, with more than 5,300 full text periodicals.
  • Expanded Academic on Gale A multidisciplinary database covering a wide range of subject areas
  • Humanities International Complete on Ebscohost This database includes the Humanities International Index (indexing and abstracts for more than 2,100 journals) plus unique full text content including over 800 fulltext journals in the humanities.
  • Informit A set of Australian-based databases. May be a useful source of local material.
  • Sage Premier Full text access to over 450 journals published by Sage, access is generally from 1999 onwards.
  • Scopus One of the world’s largest abstract and indexing database. It also includes the journals indexed by ScienceDirect. ScienceDirect is a full text science database with some social policy journals.
  • SocINDEX on Ebscohost Contains full text for more than 700 sociology journals dating back to 1908.  Also includes books and conference papers.
  • SpringerLink Full text articles from almost all journals published by Springer.
  • TVNews on Informit Provides online access to news, current affairs and selected documentary programs that have been broadcast on Australian television such as Four Corners, Catalyst and Cutting Edge.

  • Urban Studies Abstracts on Ebscohost Provides references and abstracts to articles related to urban studies, covering topics such as urban affairs, community development and urban history.
  • Web of Science Provides access to current and retrospective multidisciplinary information from approximately 8,700 of the most prestigious, high impact research journals in the world. You can search most disciplines and time spans back to 1982 to uncover information relevant to your research.
  • Wiley Interscience Journals Multidisciplinary database providing fulltext access to articles in a variety of subject areas including humanities and social sciences, business, law, psychology, education, information technology, engineering and the sciences.

  • ABS Statistical data and reports compiled by the Australian Bureau of Statistics including those on the theme of Housing.
  • OECD The web site of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development provides a variety of data including Economic and Social. The site has a Statistics Portal
  • Statistics New Zealand New Zealand's official statistics agency.

Australian Organisations and Government Bodies

  • AHURI Provides information about the work of the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute, particularly research reports.
  • AIHW The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare is the national agency for health and welfare data.
  • Australian Policy on Line APO is maintained by Swinburne University's Institute of Social Research it provides news and research from Australia's leading research centres and institutes. It includes the topic of Housing
  • FaHCSIA The Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs is a federal government department
  • DHS The Department of Human Services is the Victorian government department responsible for public housing. Information about housing can be found at the Housing portal.
