Reciprocal Borrowing for Visitors (including CAVAL, National Borrowing Scheme, ULA, TAFE)
Conditions of Registration
Reciprocal Borrowers should provide a valid CAVAL Card from their home institution together with a current student/staff identity card.
Swinburne Library reserves the right to refuse any application for Reciprocal Borrowing. Loans are conditional on acceptance of the conditions below and those published in the current Swinburne Library Guide and in the CAVAL Handbook.
The Library should be notified without delay of any change of address.
Borrower Cards
Reciprocal Borrower cards are not transferable and are valid only when signed. Loss of a card should be reported immediately to the home institution and to Swinburne Library, otherwise Swinburne Library can take no responsibility for items borrowed on that card.
What you can borrow
Material that may be borrowed includes books, periodicals (except Prahran) and audiocassettes. Restrictions
apply to other types of library materials. Up to 8 items may be
borrowed at one time.

Library Workstations
Visitor access is available to selected databases.
Most books can be renewed if they are not overdue and have not been placed on hold for another borrower. Two day loans can be renewed twice only. Periodical and audio loans cannot be renewed. You may renew loans yourself using the library catalogue. Telephone renewals are available during Opening Hours.

Holds may be placed on books that are out on loan, or which are held at another campus.
Returns
After hours return chutes are available outside the library entrances.
Note: Healesville and Wantirna chutes are accessible during opening
hours only.
Penalties for late return of items
Loans are issued subject to penalties and fines for late return:

- Borrowing privileges are suspended when an item on loan becomes overdue.
- Borrowing privileges will be restored when the item has been returned, discharged, and any fines or charges paid.
- Fine amounts accrue to a maximum of $20.00 per item.
- The fine for any recalled items not returned by the specified date is $1.50 per day.
Note: Reciprocal Borrowers who have fines in excess of $40.00
or items overdue for one month or more will also be suspended through
CAVAL. Borrowers who accrue fines at Swinburne in excess of $80.00
in any year will not be accepted as reciprocal borrowers in the
following year.
Conditions of loan
All loans must be recorded at the appropriate service point and returned by the date indicated. A current Reciprocal Borrower card and home institution identity card must be produced when borrowing or service will be refused.
