Library

Services for OUA students

For students studying at Swinburne through Open Universities Australia

The library provides a vast range of resources both in hard copy in the 5 campus libraries, and also electronically via the library home page. If you want to visit and use the library in person, it's a good idea to check out the opening hours.

Borrowing

Borrowing can be done:

  • in person, or
  • by mail

Borrowing in person

You can borrow from any Swinburne campus library by bringing your photo ID, OUA student card or letter, and the letter that has been sent to you from Swinburne (with your Swinburne student ID on it) to the service desk in any campus library.

You'll be entitled to borrow up to 30 items for a 2 week loan period.

Find out more about borrowing conditions, renewals and loan periods.

Borrowing by mail

OUA students, including those living outside Australia, can request books and journal articles.

Find out what types of things OUA students can borrow by mail.

To borrow an item by mail, please fill in the OUA request form - book/audiovisual material.

We will mail the items to you, but please note that you will be responsible for return postage, which may be costly.

First loans are 1 week longer for OUA students who request postal delivery of items, to allow for delivery and return. Please note that any renewals will be for the standard loan period.

Online material and databases

OUA students may access any electronic resources through the library website. Information about logging in may be found here.

Subject starter guides

The library website's Subject Starter Guides recommend key online resources such as databases and websites for each area of study within Swinburne. They are good starting points for finding information on particular topics.

Other libraries

OUA is currently not a member of the CAVAL reciprocal borrowing program so you're not eligible for this service. However, you are welcome to visit any tertiary library and use its facilities and resources on campus.
