Library workstations conditions of use

Who may use the workstations?

Electronic workstations may be used by:

  • current Swinburne students and staff - acurrent Swinburne ID card must be presented on request
  • authorised visitors to the library - visitors must register at the Service desk to be logged into the network

Catalogue workstations may be used by anyone.

What may the workstations be used for?

Swinburne computing facilities may only be used for the legitimate educational, research and administrative purposes of Swinburne. All other use is forbidden.

Use of Swinburne computing facilities and networks is governed by University policies and by legislation.

Relevant policies are available from Swinburne Policy and Procedures Database.

The workstations must not be used for any fraudulent or unlawful purpose, including any activities prohibited under any applicable Australian State and/or Commonwealth law.

Restrictions

Licences

You must abide by licence requirements of any software or resources you use on the workstations.

Copyright Act

Unless otherwise permitted by the Copyright Act, unauthorised copying or public performance of works or audiovisual material is prohibited. The University does not authorise you to make copies or deal with copyright material without permission of the copyright owner.

Equipment and software

Damaging equipment, altering software settings, or installing software on the workstations is forbidden.

Other restrictions and requirements

You must also abide by other restrictions and requirements shown on booking sheets, computer screens, or notices near the workstations.

Penalties

Any person who fails to observe any of the above conditions will be subject to disciplinary action which may result in exclusion from the library and suspension of borrower privileges. Legal action may also be taken in cases of unlawful activity.

Changes to this Policy

This Policy may be changed at any time.
