PC Bookings at Hawthorn campus

The Library's PC bookings system ensures fairer use of our computers.

The booking system is only in use at Hawthorn campus, on levels 1, 2 and 4. Computers on level 3 and at other campuses may be used without a booking.

Booking instructions

• Log in using your SIMS username and password.
• There is a limit of one 2-hour session booked per person. Bookings may be made up to 7 days in advance.
• You cannot make a second booking before your session, but you can make your next booking during your session.
• You can delete a booking before your session.
• You cannot make a booking on behalf of another person.
• Booking screens are updated every 90 seconds as new bookings are added.

Rules for using the computers

• You will receive a warning 10, 3 and 1 minutes before your session ends. The PC will log out and reboot at the session end.
• You must save your work before the session ends. Use your own portable drive as the computer's drive will be wiped for the next session.
• Before your session ends you may get an option to extent the current session for up to one hour if it is not booked by another person.
• Your booking will be cancelled if you are more than 10 minutes late.
• If you leave your computer unattended for 15 minutes during a session, the PC will log off and reboot, and clear its drive of documents.
• You can walk up to a PC and use it without booking provided the computer hasn't been booked for someone else or they are more than 10 minutes late.
• A booking cannot span midnight, and all PCs will be rebooted at 11:59pm.

Computers with specialised software installed

Some computers on levels 1 and 2, Hawthorn campus library, have additional software installed as requested by a particular School or Faculty. These computers are identified by a code shown at the end of the PC number.
