Wireless
laptop loans
A wireless local
area network is available at all of Swinburne University's five major campuses: Hawthorn,
Lilydale, Wantirna, Croydon and Prahran.
The Swinburne
University of Technology Library has a number of wireless computer laptops and
MacBooks available for loan to Swinburne currently enrolled students.
Loan periods
- Wireless laptops and
MacBooks are available for a four-hour loan from all campus libraries
during Library
opening hours but must be returned no later
than 30 minutes before closing time. Wireless laptop loans cease 1 hour before
closing time.
Important loan conditions
- Laptop computers can
be borrowed from the Service Desk at your campus library
- The loan conditions
vary between campus libraries so call your campus library to find out specific
loan details.
- Return a laptop to
the Service Desk staff member no later than the due day and time shown on your
day due slip. Allow 5 to 10 minutes for the check-in process. You must remain in
the library until the check in process is completed.
-
All wireless laptop
users must abide by the Information
Technology Systems Acceptable Use Policy
- Laptop loan
privileges may be suspended for breaches of loan conditions.
- See Borrowing from the library for loan conditions applicable to all
Swinburne library resources
Fines / Late charges
The fine rate is $1.50 per hour
if the wireless laptop is returned late. Fines continue to accrue until the
laptop is returned to the library.
Using a wireless laptop in the library
- Use a carrel or table next to a power point (leads must not cause
obstruction to other library users). Use its battery power supply only if there
is no main power access point in the area you need to use it.
- Save your work to either F drive or an external data storage device
before you turn the laptop off. If you save your documents on the laptop's hard
drive, you will lose your work and your privacy will be compromised.
- Documents can be printed using the network printers in your campus
library.
Swinburne staff and students may
use their own laptop computers to connect to the Swinburne Network providing
their laptops have been fitted with a wireless card. Wireless how to guides
are available from the ITS web page. These guides contain information and Swinwifi
software that enable staff and students to
connect to the Swinburne's Computer Network.
Loss
or damage
- Borrowers are responsible for the safety of the borrowed laptop. You must
never leave the laptop unattended. Take it to the Service Desk staff for
safekeeping even if you have to leave your seat for a few minutes.
- You will be charged for full replacement cost if the laptop or any of its
peripherals are damaged or lost.
- Lost or damaged equipment cannot
be replaced with the borrower's personal equipment
