Swinburne offers students multiple program options to experience Industry Engaged Learning. Program options are also available for industry partners.  

Capstones groupwork

Capstones

Capstones are subjects undertaken in your final year of study. They are designed to provide professionally focused learning experiences which assist industry in tackling real-world challenges and help consolidate the knowledge you have obtained throughout your course. Each faculty offers a range of Capstone Units to choose from.


Internships

Internships

Internships aim to develop your professional and practical skills and encourage you to apply skills and knowledge acquired through your study to a real work environment. You will be placed with an organisation to work on a research project or undertake develop work skills in industry; usually for 2 or 3 days a week.


Industry

Industry-Based Learning (IBL)

Industry-Based Learning (IBL) is all about helping you gain industry experience before you graduate. The program provides you with an opportunity to undertake full-time paid placement in an area relevant to your studies for either 6 or 12 months.


Design

Industry Placement (IP)

If you are a Design, or Film and Television student, an Industry Placement is the perfect way to gain industry experience. IP is offered for either 6 or 12 months and is a practical pathway towards your Honours year. Not only is it a wonderful learning experience but you will continue to receive credit towards your degree throughout the placement.


Study Tours

Study Tours

Study tours provide you with an opportunity to travel overseas, and be exposed to international business practices. The tours include visits to a wide range of organisations and allow you to experience how culture impacts on international business activities.

IBL Overseas

The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) offers a program that allows students to take part in an international work placement within their discipline. Undergraduate students studying Engineering, Science, IT and related disciplines can access over 80 partner countries, such as Germany, France and Italy.
