Our Vision
To be at the forefront of Industry Engaged Learning (IEL), demonstrating global leadership in the theory and practice of IEL. To engage and enrich students' practical knowledge and skills in real-world environments and provide a meaningful partnership with industry.
Our Strategy
The strategy for Industry Engaged Learning at Swinburne is an institution-wide approach to embedding IEL throughout the curriculum integrating the philosophy and practice of IEL as an important part of how we teach.
Additionally, it focuses on providing multiple opportunities for students to learn in the context of the workplace by developing a value proposition of mutual benefit to all key stakeholders.
Our Philosophies and Practices
Industry Engaged Learning was officially established in order to help Swinburne meet priority objectives, to provide meaningful IEL experiences to all undergraduate students, and to optimise the overall learning quality.
Through Industry Engaged Learning, students are exposed to real-world work environments and contexts, including organisations and institutions of all types. IEL draws on four main learning theory streams for its pedagogical basis: adult learning (andragogy), experiential, workplace, and transformational.
We will continue to embed IEL in best practice. IEL will be the way that Swinburne undertakes its core business, not just the delivery of education to students but in its approach to engaging with industry, the community, and other educational institutions.
