Real Women in ICT

I chose Swinburne because they offered pathways from TAFE and Industry Based Learning. And while these were fantastic opportunities, the best thing about Swinburne was the staff. Lecturers went above and beyond and became my friends and everyone in the Faculty of ICT was an amazing support.
My biggest tip is do what you love and what truly interests you – everything else will fall into place.

In year 12 I was torn between studying for a Business or an IT degree as they were my favourite and strongest subjects in high school. While I was looking through all the course details I read about Swinburne's double degree, attended the open day with my mum and decided it was right for me.
I loved the feel of Swinburne when I attended the open day and the IBL program (with the choice of doing it through either the IT or the Business faculty) was a huge drawcard too.
I loved my course because of the variety and balance. I enjoyed both sides of my double degree equally so I liked studying a few technical subjects in a semester as well as a few business subjects- it kept me focused and interested.
My piece of advice for new and current students is to find ways to keep it interesting, so you stay focused and enthusiastic . Investigate on campus activities (I was part of the Swinmates program and had a blast!), look into university exchange, do your IBL placement, pick interesting electives - all of this will help with making uni fun and you're more likely to do well when you're having fun!

Bachelor of Computing
I chose Swinburne as the Bachelor of Computing suited my previous studies and allowed me to gain exemptions and I had also heard good feedback about the university.
Plan, prepare and organize! Don't wait for the last minute. Get involved and take advantage of the opportunities offered by the university.

Swinbure has a very good research team in software testing around Australia.
One must seek out the elements of a subject that relate to one's interests and prior knowledge. If you can do this, you truly internalize the material, and get generally get top grades as a side effect.

I chose Swinburne for the opportunity to do an Industry Based Learning (IBL) placement. This gave me invaluable real-world experience and helped me find a job after finishing university.
Tip for new students: Take every opportunity to network and meet new people in your future professional industry, including other students. Your networks will be incredibly useful throughout your career.
