Research Projects and Grants

The Swinburne University Centre for Computing and Engineering Software Systems receives a number of research grants each year. Below are just some of the projects and associated with these major grants.

Cloud Computing

As the Internet evolves and, in particular, as very high bandwidth becomes readily available, it has become possible to envisage all the resources needed to accomplish the IT function as residing in the Web rather than physically existing on the user's premises. Hence cloud computing, a style of computing in which dynamically scalable resources are available on the Internet as services and as a service, paid for on a usage basis, viz., as a service.

Component Software Research

To conduct internationally recognised research in Software Engineering in general and Component Software in particular, investigating methods, techniques and tools for developing and assembling software systems from new and pre-existing software components/services with predictable system behaviour and properties.

Intelligent Agent Technology Research

To research and develop new methods, techniques and software solutions for intelligent agents and multi-agent systems, focusing on autonomous negotiation and decision-making, coordination and adaptation mechanisms, and their application in building and managing complex software systems and services.

Role Oriented Adaptive Design (ROAD)

Software systems are becoming increasingly more open, distributed, pervasive, mobile and connected. The environments in which these software systems are deployed are rapidly changing. Adaptive self-managed systems are a way to address this growing complexity and volatility. Role Oriented Adaptive Design (ROAD) is a metamodel which allows the design of these systems.

Smart Energy Management

Develop smart energy management software services providing decentralised decision support, optimisation and automation for collective energy usage at the individual household, building, micro-grid and grid levels using intelligent software agents.

Web Data Management

To conduct internationally recognised research in Web and Data Engineering, in particular to investigate effective methods and efficient algorithms for managing huge, diverse and distributed XML data in advanced Web information systems and applications.
