arrowSuccessful Launch of Smart Services CRC
July 2008
The Smart Services CRC has officially been launched by Senator, The Honourable Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science & Research. Smart Services CRC is a research and development partnership between 12 major industry players and six Australian universities, including Swinburne's CITR, funded by the private sector and governments under the Australian Government’s Cooperative Research Centre program in excess of $120m over 7 years.

CITR develops a fully distributed social network platform called OpenSocial, that is a joint research and development in collaboration with VastPark started in 2006. This OpenSocial project is different and separate from Google's OpenSocial project announced recently.

Smart Services CRC granted
January 2007
CITR has been instrumental in the successful bid for a new Cooperative Research Centre for Smart Services (Smart Services CRC) involving collaboration between industry and leading universities. The funding includes $30.8 million awarded by the Commonwealth Government which is the largest grant for a CRC in the ICT sector. More information

The Utility Grid Project granted
January 2007
CITR is a core participant in the Utility Grid Project awarded $592,875 by the Commonwealth Government for research in autonomic and utility-oriented global grids. The project is coordinated by the University of Melbourne and involves collaboration with two EU FP6 projects: CoreGrid and CatNets, and a number of international and Australian collaborators. e-Security
June 2006
CITR has been instrumental in establishing the Victorian e-Security Cluster, with funding of $100K from the Victorian Government (Multimedia Victoria). The Cluster starts formal operation from 1 July 2006, with Swinburne being one of the five cornerstone foundation members (others being Computer Associates, Intel, Deakin and RMIT). As well as delivering significant benefits for the State and beyond, the Cluster will provide great collaborative opportunities for Swinburne in e-security research and education. Swinburne's effort is led by Prof Jun Han. 

ARC Linkage Project
June 2006
A/Prof. Chengfei Liu and Prof. Yun Yang from CITR and Dr. Wasim Sadiq from SAP Research Center Brisbane have been successful in their ARC Linkage Project application (2nd round in 2005) titled "An Organisation Oriented Framework for Collaborative Business Processes". The project will be funded with $235K from ARC for 3 years starting from the mid of 2006 plus contribution from SAP Australia.

CITR Launch

The Centre for Information Technology Research at Swinburne(CITR) has been established within the Faculty of ICT and officially launched in December 2005.
