Course Description
The MISM is designed as a comprehensive and contemporary study of management issues associated with the successful deployment of information systems in contemporary organisations so that optimal business value is delivered without unnecessary exposure to IS related risk.
This MISM will meet the needs of applicants who wish to enhance their career opportunities through developing current approaches to the management of information systems. The program aims to produce ‘hybrid’ professionals able to recognise the managerial complexities and challenges associated with the application of information systems and technologies within and between contemporary organisations.
The MISM is designed for professionals with industry experience. A variety of entry points are available depending on prior academic qualifications.
Aims and Objectives
- Introduce the student to key themes, issues and trends which underpin the study of contemporary information systems.
- Understand the nature, role and impact of information, information systems (IS), and information technology (IT) and their use in local, national and global business environments
- Provide the knowledge and managerial skills required to ensure that information systems can be used effectively in support of business objectives and to deliver value to stakeholders
- understand the major contemporary issues in the management of the IS / IT function and appreciate the major issues in the acquisition of systems and technology
- Appreciate the importance of developing appropriate organisational IS capabilities ensuring sound IS governance within organisations
Entrance Requirements
For admission to the MISM at least two years relevant professional experience are required.
Students who have a degree which includes some information technology subjects may be eligible for a number of exemptions. Students who have a IS degree or a Graduate Diploma in Information Systems may be eligible for up to 4 subject exemptions.
Program Structure
The course involves completion of 12 subjects totalling 150 credit points. Entry is possible in both Semester 1 (Feb) and Semester 2 (July).
