What does IAESTE offer?

  • Paid professional traineeships for students studying science, engineering and technology related disciplines (Architecture positions also available)
  • Traineeships available in over 80 countries
  • Length of traineeships range from 2 to 12 months
  • Traineeships commence mid-year onward
  • Traineeships available in industrial organisations, research institutes, local government bodies, consultancies, laboratories and academic institutions
  • Salaries to cover cost of living including accommodation. Students are responsible for own travel and insurance costs
  • Assistance with work permits, visas and accommodation
  • Organised social program in most countries

Who is eligible?

IAESTE applicants are required to be:

  • Currently enrolled students in engineering, science, agriculture, architecture or technology related disciplines at an Australian university.
  • Students at the middle or end stage of undergraduate study. First year students are advised not to apply. Postgraduate students also eligible.
  • Students with a minimum credit average
  • Under 30 years of age
  • International Students are eligible to do a traineeship during semester time provided professional experience is a compulsory component of the degree. This is due to the Australian Student Visa restrictions.

Students from all Australian universities are eligible to apply, however, find out the benefits for students if your university is a member of IAESTE Australia.

If your university is not a member, it is a good opportunity to talk to your faculty about becoming a member.

Application procedure

If you wish to apply for an IAESTE traineeship please complete the application form and return to IAESTE Australia with the required attachments and deposit.

The application deadline is 10th December each year for a position commencing the following year. All applicants are encouraged to submit their applications earlier rather than wait until the closing date.

Important deadlines

  • December 10th: Applications are due
  • January: Annual IAESTE Conference is held where offers of training are exchanged between member countries
  • February/March: Job listing available to applicants; Selection of applicants for each position; Selected applicants apply formally to the employer, one applicant per position
  • April/May: Acceptances are received from employers and relevant documentation provided for obtaining work permits and visas if applicable
  • June onwards: Traineeships commence

PLEASE NOTE: There is only one application deadline per year and positions commence during semester 2 (not semester 1) of the Australian academic year.
