Guidelines
The AISEF Postgraduate Fellowship is directed at promoting scientific exchange and collaboration between Israel and Australia and provides funding to assist a student enrolled in a postgraduate research degree at an Australian University to spend up to 6 months working in a research laboratory in Israel.
The long-term objective of the Foundation is to foster exchange and collaboration between Israel and Australia. Eligibility for the Fellowship is restricted to Israeli or Australian nationals or those holding permanent residency visas for either country.
The research activity undertaken by the student must be part of, or contribute to, the Australian postgraduate degree for which they are studying. The period spent at the Israeli research laboratory can occur at any point during the student's study for the Australian degree but must be completed in 2010 and prior to submission of the thesis for examination. The minimum period of the Fellowship is 3 months. One Fellowship will be offered.
The funds cover economy return airfares from the student's home university to the Israeli research laboratory and contribute to living and accommodation costs for a period up to 6 months to a maximum of A$5000. Successful applicants will be expected to arrange accommodation through the Israeli laboratory in which they will be working.
Applications will be assessed on the basis of:
- The benefit of the experience in the Israeli research laboratory to the applicant's research.
- The extent to which the Fellowship will promote or result in further scientific exchange between Australia and Israel, and
- Where relevant, the level of support provided by the Australian University and/or the Israeli Institution for the program.
Applications for the AISEF Postgraduate Fellowship must include:
- Description of the research activity proposed to be undertaken in the research laboratory and a statement of how that work contributes to the research being undertaken for the Australian degree. This description should propose the duration and dates of the time to be spent in the Israeli research laboratory.
- A brief statement (not more than one page) of how the research activity can contribute to increased scientific collaboration between Israel and Australia.
- A letter from the Head of the Israeli research laboratory indicating their willingness to have the student work on the proposed research in that laboratory.
- A letter of support by the applicant's supervisor for the research program at the Israeli Institution.
- An official University statement of the applicant's enrolment in, or acceptance into, a postgraduate research degree at an Australian University.
- An official University transcript of academic results for any undergraduate or postgraduate studies undertaken by the applicant.
Process
Applications for the AISEF Postgraduate Fellowship will be assessed by an Advisory Panel established by the Board of the Australia-Israel Scientific Exchange Foundation. This Advisory Panel will make recommendations to the Board on the applications. Applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application. Grants will be paid directly to the student's Australian institution. The Australian institution will be responsible for providing financial acquittal of the funds received.
Report and acknowledgement of AISEF support
Awardees will be required to complete a report on their experience as an AISEF Postgraduate Fellow. The report and any subsequent AISEF generated research papers, must clearly acknowledge AISEF support.
