Fees and FEE-HELP


I am interested in applying for a postgraduate program at Swinburne next year. How much will this program cost me?

What is FEE-HELP?

FEE-HELP is a loan given to eligible fee-paying students to help pay part or all of their tuition fees.

Students can choose to defer all or part of the cost of the fee-paying course and pay their debt back through the taxation system.

Am I eligible for FEE-HELP? 

You are eligible for FEE-HELP assistance if you:

  • Are enrolled in a fee-paying undergraduate or postgraduate non-research program
  • Are not a Commonwealth supported student
  • Are an Australian citizen or a holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa (who meets eligibility requirements)
  • Meet the Tax File Number (TFN) requirements
  • Have not exceeded the FEE-HELP limit

How much can I borrow?  

From 1 January 2007 all eligible students may borrow up to $80,000 from the Commonwealth to pay their tuition fees.

FEE-HELP does not cover any administrative fees. Accommodation and living expenses also are not included. Students who are eligible for FEE-HELP will have three options for payment:

  • Pay the full tuition fee up-front
  • Pay some of the tuition fee up-front and request a FEE-HELP loan for the remainder of the tuition fee
  • Request a FEE-HELP loan for the full tuition fee

When do I start repaying my FEE-HELP loan?

You will begin repaying your loan through the taxation system once your repayment income reaches the minimum threshold for compulsory repayment.

How much does Summer Semester cost?

The cost of Summer Semester varies depending on which units of study you enrol in. Postgraduate units may be charged to FEE-HELP if the units go towards their award.
