The Department of Social Sciences has diverse research interests that include topics such as:

  • languages: world literatures and cultures, linguistics
  • philosophy: environmental philosophy, political philosophy, process philosophy
  • Chinese: contemporary Chinese society and popular culture
  • sustainability: environmental knowledge and practice, food waste management
  • politics and international relations: right-wing populism and extremism, the politics of East Timor, public policy, securitisation, social justice, European politics, Australian electoral systems and behaviour
  • history: settler societies, radical and labour histories
  • Indigenous studies: Indigenous photographic histories, Indigenous culture and identity, Indigenous tourism, reconciliation studies
  • sociology: multiculturalism and interculturalism, refugee and immigration policy, race and ethnic relations, media and sport, digital technologies, assisted reproductive technologies, queer theory and feminism, gay men and ageing.
