Donald Iverson Memorial Fund

Professor Donald IversonProfessor Donald Iverson was the inaugural Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health, Arts and Design at Swinburne. Our community was greatly saddened by his passing on 18 March 2016.

We are privileged to have known and worked with Don – indeed Swinburne is a better place because of Don’s contribution.

Although his time with us at Swinburne was short, his impact on individuals and our organisation was significant. Don always saw the best in people. His energy and enthusiasm was infectious and he was a true innovator.

Don’s legacy across academia and business, in government and non-government health organisations in North America and Australia is profound. He was a visionary, who saw past small obstacles to behold the bigger picture.

Don joined Swinburne in March 2013 after 13 years at the University of Wollongong, where he held a number of roles including Executive Dean of Health and Behavioural Sciences, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Health), and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health.

Don’s numerous executive and senior management positions included teaching and research positions at the University of Toledo, University of Colorado, University of Denver, University of Toronto, NSW Health and Medical Research Strategic Review Committee, and Executive Director of the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute (IHMRI). He established Australia’s national breast cancer research program, for which he was honoured in 2008 with Award for Innovation.

As a person Don was a warm, insightful and calm confidante.

The Donald Iverson Memorial Fund has been established to allow colleagues and friends who wish to celebrate Don’s life through making a gift to education. Donations to this fund will ensure that his enthusiasm for innovation in health research can continue.

Gifts made to the Donald Iverson Memorial Fund will be used to award a PhD Research Scholarship. Like Don, the recipient of this scholarship will be inspired to identify, understand and solve real-world health challenges.
