Friday, June 1, 2012

Swinburne's best engineering students from 2011 were recognised at the annual Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Sciences Prize Giving Ceremony on 1st June

A total of thirty six awards were presented to thirty nine students on the night. Awards were broad ranging and recognised outstanding achievements by students from different disciplines and at various stages in their university career.

As with previous years, the event was strongly supported by industry with companies, industry bodies and individuals donating the prizes and attending the evening to make presentations to students.

Over 200 students, family, staff and industry sponsors and presenters were in attendance.

Recent graduate Emma Carland (pictured above center) was presented with the W.P. Brown Medal, a most prestigious engineering award at Swinburne. Instigated by Engineers Australia in memory of Swinburne alumnus Dr William Piper Brown, this prize recognises the best all-round final year undergraduate engineering student, taking into consideration academic results and community service. The Medal was presented by Mr. David Heath - Structural Branch: Engineers Australia, Victoria Division (pictured on the right), and Nan Brown (pictured left), daughter of W.P. Brown.

Speaking on behalf of the students to close the evening, Emma Carland thanked family, friends and lecturers for their support whilst studying.

It is only with the support and encouragement of the sponsors that this event can take place every year.
