Product Design Engineering students
are given opportunities to mix study, cultural
exchange and travel at least once during their
course. PDE 2nd year students, travel for 6weeks
to a European city during the summer vacation.
In 2004, students went to Germany and worked
on design projects with the local university
students, as well as extensive cultural and tourist
travel around Europe. Visiting many art galleries,
manufacturing plants and trade exhibitions around
Germany was very enriching for all Australian
students. The students also receive 2 subject
credits for their project work.
An exchange agreement with Groningen University
- Netherlands has been undertaken by many PDE
students. It is undertaken after the first
semester of 3rd year and has 6 months of study
and 6 months of industry experience in a European
company working on product design projects.
Many of our students have been appointed to
Phillips -Consumers Goods R&D. This exchange
also allows for further travel in Europe or
returning to Australia to complete a further
6 months of IBL.
International exchange agreements with Allborg
University – Denmark are currently under
negotiation as are exchanges with other PDE
type courses in the United Kingdom.
Also applicable are ‘Design’ only
Universities in Asia. These are Universities
that specialise in product design and do not
offer engineering subjects. Refer to the Faculty
of Design website for further details.
