Research Degrees

Two decades ago, the Industrial Research Institute Swinburne (IRIS) and its predecessor (The CIM Centre) pioneered industry-oriented postgraduate research programs in Australia at Master of Engineering and PhD level. Since that time, more than a hundred research students have graduated after completing leading-edge industry projects in areas such as:

bullet Advanced Manufacturing Technology
bullet Automation and Control
bullet Mechatronics
bullet Microsystems Technology
bullet Non-Contact Inspection
bullet Robotics.

These projects were completed in collaboration with leading-edge Australian organisations, including Air International, ANCA, CSIRO, Fleetguard, Ford, General Motors Holden, Moldflow, Softronics, Thin-ICE, and numerous others.

PhD and Master of Engineering (by Research) programs provide young researchers with an accelerated learning path that includes both industrial and research experience, thereby maximising career options upon completion, with most going onto successful careers with the industrial partner company that sponsored their research at IRIS.
