Graduated from the Moscow State University, Moscow, Russia (Faculty of Physics), 1983: BSc (Physics), MSc (Physical Oceanography). Worked as a Research Scientist in the Marine Hydrophysical Institute, Sebastopol, Russia in 1983-1996, then at the Australian Defence Force Academy, Canberra, Australia in 1997-2000 and in the University of Adelaide, Adelaide, Australia in 2000-2004. Since 2004 – at the Swinburne University of Technology (Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Sciences).
