The Master of Technology (Civil) / Master of Technology Management (Construction
Management) will be offered from Semester 2, 2008 onwards.
New Study Option: Swinburne now offers students an opportunity to undertake the Master of Technology (Civil) in conjunction with the Master of Technology Management (Construction Management) and reduce the study length from two and a half years to only two years.
Program Overview
Swinburne’s suite of postgraduate programs in Civil Engineering and Construction Management aim to prepare graduates for future roles in managing people, equipment, materials, technological processes and funds in the construction, building and maintenance of buildings and assets in civil infrastructure.
These programs are designed to develop:
- Advanced design and analysis skills associated with civil infrastructure
- Understanding of the issues and challenges associated with the procurement and asset management of infrastructure projects in the 21st century
- An understanding of sustainability issues and environmental impacts
- An understanding of financial, legal, project management and risk considerations associated with
project procurement and the business of engineering
- An ability to plan construction, building and maintenance operations and to forecast resource needs
- Knowledge of modern building, construction and maintenance technology
- Research and investigation skills
Program Structure
Two years full-time or four years part-time. International students must study a full-time load).
Professional Recognition
Completion of the programs will assist graduates meet eligibility criteria for membership of Engineers
Australia.
Career Opportunities
These programs will provide graduates with an opportunity to gain advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of the design, procurement and asset management of civil infrastructure projects and construction management. The programs will also assist in up-skilling local and international civil engineering and construction management graduates in the state of the art Australian professional engineering. The skills attained from the program should assist graduates gaining employment in a range of industries including; consulting engineering, construction, local government and public and private infrastructure owners and providers.
Admission requirements
Students are required to enrol into the Master of Technology (Civil) and meet the entry-requirements of this course. Once they have successfully completed the Master of Technology (Civil), students can then apply to study the Master of Technology Management (Construction Management) and receive up to six months worth of exemption.
