Getting to CAOUS

The Swinburne Optronics and Laser Laboratories are located in the suburb of Hawthorn, approximately 7 kilometres from the centre of Melbourne. It is on the ground floor of the Applied Science building, on the corner of Burwood Road and Serpells Lane. Getting to SOLL is quite straightforward, either by train or car.

By train...
From any train station in the city centre, catch any train on the Lilydale, Belgrave, or Alamein lines. Get off the train at Glenferrie station (there are "Swinburne University" signs on the station platforms), and walk down to the ticket office. Turn right at the ticket office, and then left at the phone boxes at the end of the arcade shops. Walk along path (Swinburne Walk) between the railway line and car park for about 50m, then turn right at the campus sign and map. After walking about 50 metres the Applied Science building will be on your left (a 4 storey brick building) and the entrance to SOLL is through the clearly marked glass doors just before you reach Burwood Road.

By car...
Using the Melway street directory of Melbourne, SOLL is located on map 45, grid reference G-16 (see maps below). From the city centre drive east along Victoria Parade, and then turn right onto Glenferrie Road. Travelling south along Glenferrie, turn left onto Burwood Road. The first street on the left is Serpells Lane. The entrance to SOLL is through the glass doors on the ground floor of the Applied Science building, on Serpells Lane.

Car parking
Parking around the campus can be a problem, so we advise the use of a nearby multi-deck car park. To drive there, turn off Glenferrie Road onto Wakefield Street. The car park entrance will be on the left.
