Mr Darryl Gerlach (CPEng, MIEAust, MRAeS),
Lecturer Aviation

Darryl recently joined Swinburne in "retirement" from the position of Manager of the Melbourne office of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.  While qualified as an Aeronautical Engineer, most of Darryl's 45 years of operational experience in the aviation industry have been in flight testing, both of commercial aircraft and airport support systems including navigational aids. This has provided many opportunities to be involved with and thence lead, multifarious teams in the management of airlines and their operational oversight.  Now as convenor of the Human Factors stream of Postgraduate units and lecturing on the Integration of Safety Management System, he continues to have close contact with the aviation industry for both learning and development perspectives.  Indeed, he actively continues his operational expertise as a specialist consultant to flying operations to and within Antarctica.
