General Flying Services

Swinburne Aviation Degree and Diploma students undertake their flying training and associated theory at General Flying Services, Moorabbin Airport.

Flying training and CASA theory is provided in accordance with a training syllabus and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) developed by GFS and accredited by QANTAS for use in their cadet training scheme.

Australia's premier pilot training college

Qantas Airways nominated General Flying Services as their only Victorian based, pilot training provider, thus acknowledging the quality of the training delivered to our students since 1992.

General Flying Services' Moorabbin airport base, established in 1968, has excellent facilities and resources such as a simulator equipped ground school, a fleet of up to 65 aircraft and more than fifty professional staff.

Over 70 graduates are currently employed as flight crew in Australian and overseas airlines, including QANTAS, Virgin Blue and Cathay Pacific. Allowing for three to four years' experience, after graduating, these programs have achieved a 70% uptake of eligible graduates by the airlines. With these graduates holding positions all the way up to Captain, the results speak for themselves.

The company's impressive training record also includes:
  • Training cadet pilots for Qantas Airways
  • Training more than 50 Hong Kong CAD Air Traffic Control Trainees to PPL
  • Conducting Flight Engineer to Pilot training conversion for Ansett Airlines
  • Training international and domestic students, graduating over 300 qualified pilots a year
  • Developing and running Australia's leading aerobatics school
  • Training more Flight instructors than any other civilian training facility, including training for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and former Bureau of Air Safety.
