Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Sciences

Welcome to the Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Sciences

Professor John Beynon, Dean of the Faculty

Industry Based Learning

The Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Sciences is host to most of the engineering activities at Swinburne as well as key programs in aviation and photonics. Faculty boundaries matter little in the delivery of our courses or research, since Swinburne is devoted to maximising the opportunities available for students and staff across the campus and beyond. The Faculty operates as an administration unit within the University and thus is home to over 2300 undergraduates and postgraduates on taught course and research programs, and over 150 academic, administration, research and technical staff at the Hawthorn campus. Many of our programs are also delivered by colleagues at the Sarawak campus, with whom close collaborations continue to be developed. Effective pathways exist for articulating between TAFE and our programs. A distinguishing feature of the programs at Swinburne is the expectation that students will undertake 6-12 months of industrial work experience during their studies. bulletMore
