|Date:||19 June to 4 July 2017|
|Venue:||Various venues (see table) Hawthorn Campus|
You are warmly invited to attend one of a series of focus groups being conducted at Swinburne University in support of its bronze-level application for the SAGE Athena SWAN award.
Swinburne is part of the Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) Athena SWAN pilot. This nation-wide program aims to improve the recruitment, retention and progression of women in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) in Australian universities and research institutes.
As a part of our commitment to improving gender equity in STEMM disciplines, we will be conducting a series of focus groups to explore some of the key themes relating to supporting and advancing women's careers in STEMM areas at Swinburne.
The Athena SWAN focus groups will be conducted in June this year and will be confidential and small (up to 10 people). Each focus group will run for a maximum of 1 and ½ hours and will be audio-recorded and professionally transcribed. All information collected during the focus groups will be anonymised.
We have engaged an external consultant with 20 years of experience in gender diversity to help us conduct these groups and analyse the data. The information collected will be used in our Athena SWAN SAGE Pilot Project application and by the University to identify areas for action and improvement.
We are seeking the input of female and male STEMM staff and HDR students at all levels and in all disciplines, including HDR STEMM students, PAVE STEMM staff and professional/support staff in STEMM areas.
We would particularly welcome staff and students from under-represented groups in STEMM including Indigenous people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, LGBTQIA people and people with disabilities.
