You are invited to come and hear Professor Linda Duxbury from Sprott School of Business, Carleton University, Canada present ‘The Care and Maintenance of your PhD Supervisor’.
Supervising a research student involves relationship work. Relationship work can be difficult and when it goes wrong, it REALLY goes wrong. Although when it goes right, the supervisor and student relationship is one that benefits both parties.
Like any relationship, the PhD student-supervisor association is one that is fraught with potential pitfalls. These challenges need to be proactively managed if you want to succeed in the PhD program. Both parties have a role to play in managing this very important relationship. Although your doctoral project dominates your time and efforts, your project is just one of many of your supervisor’s commitments.
So, how you make the most of your time with your supervisor? This talk outlines a number of tips, tricks and practical actions that Professor Duxbury has found worked for her and 20+ PhD students she has supervised over the past two decades and whom she still calls ‘my friends’.
